Wendy's Take on Singapore
35+ years of travel expertise
After 35+ years of helping travelers discover their dream destinations, Singapore remains one of my absolute favorites, a true jewel of Southeast Asia. This incredible Lion City is a vibrant tapestry woven with futuristic architecture, lush green spaces, and a culinary scene that will tantalize every palate. It’s a destination that truly offers something for everyone, whether you’re a solo adventurer, a couple seeking romance, or a family looking for an unforgettable experience.
What makes Singapore so special, you ask? It’s the seamless blend of tradition and innovation. You can wander through historic neighborhoods like Chinatown and Little India, then marvel at the breathtaking Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay, all in the same day. For those who appreciate efficiency, cleanliness, and safety, Singapore is unparalleled. It’s best for travelers who love exploring diverse cultures, indulging in world-class dining, and experiencing cutting-edge urban design alongside serene natural beauty. Foodies, architecture enthusiasts, and families will find themselves utterly captivated.
The best time to visit Singapore is generally between February and April, when the weather is a bit drier and less humid, making it perfect for exploring both indoor and outdoor attractions. However, its equatorial climate means it’s a fantastic year-round destination, with plenty of air-conditioned havens to escape the heat.
My personal favorite thing about Singapore has to be the hawker centers. The sheer variety and quality of food available at such incredible value is simply unmatched. It’s a true culinary adventure, and I always encourage my clients to dive in and try as many dishes as possible. A specific booking tip I always share is to book your accommodations well in advance, especially if you’re planning to visit during peak seasons or major events. Singapore’s popularity means the best hotels and unique stays fill up quickly. Trust me, with a little planning, your Singapore adventure will be nothing short of spectacular!
Insider Tips — Singapore
To truly experience Singapore's culinary scene, skip the fancy restaurants for a few meals and head straight to a hawker center like Lau Pa Sat or Maxwell Food Centre. You'll find incredible, authentic dishes at a fraction of the price.
Don't underestimate the efficiency of Singapore's public transport. The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is clean, air-conditioned, and connects to almost every major attraction, making it the best way to get around.
While the Singapore Sling is famous, try a local Kopi (coffee) or Teh Tarik (pulled tea) from a traditional coffee shop for a more authentic taste of daily life.
For a unique perspective of the city, consider a night safari at the Singapore Zoo; it's a world-class experience that's perfect for all ages.
If you're looking for souvenirs, explore the diverse shops in Chinatown or Little India for handcrafted goods and local delicacies, rather than just the generic tourist shops.
